Phoenix Fall Showcase attracts top talent 

 

The 2009 Phoenix Fall Showcase, The only Arizona’s own basketball high school showcase will be held October 10-11 at Phoenix College, 1202 West Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85013. This Showcase will feature the top high school players in the state of Arizona. The Phoenix Fall Showcase will honor one of the top players in the state of Wyoming. Also Impact Basketball Academy (Las Vegas, NV) a prep school will play and have a few of the top prospects in the country.  

Of the 30 teams participating and over 400 players this event will be the best chance to watch high school basketball at an exposure event. Several of the top players in the state will be playing include. Terrell Stoglin from Santa Rita (Tucson, AZ) who committed to the University of Maryland and will sign this fall. Stoglin could be the best pure point guard prospect to ever come out of the state of Arizona. Christian Bower, Isaiah Strong, Josh Amaya and Jason Garretson will have the best combo of front and back court players in the state at Mesquite and could have three division I players come spring. Demetrius Balark a 2012 guard out of Kellis (Glendale, AZ) was mentioned on hoopmasters.com as the best prospect in the state in his class and is being recruited by several high major schools.

Other players to watch and sleepers will be Robert Selmon (Central), George Matthews & Jordan Didier (St. Mary’s), Paul Miles (Apache Junction), JT Velasco (Highland), Dylan Crist (Desert Ridge), Kurtis Silversmith (St.Michaels HS  Window Rock, AZ), Nicholas August (Gallup, NM), Blake Vedder (Impact Basketball Academy), Jordan McDougald (Red MT), Judd Welfringer (Basha), John Bailey (Dobson), Carter Warnock (Seton Catholic), Blondy Baruti (Mesa), Jahii Carson (Mesa), Torren Jones (Basha), Tres La Chance (O’Connor), Matt Korcheck (Sabino), Tyler Russell (Millennium), Kenny Martin (Kellis), Drew Bender (Pinnacle), Larry Lewis (Arcadia) and Kye De Laveaga (Horizon).         

This event is being directed by Chad Groth, a former Harlem Globetrotter executive and now gives back to the community thru his foundation and time with youth in basketball. Groth also is the Director of basketball for newly Phoenix Sun Channing Frye and runs his youth basketball programs and with the Channing Frye Foundation. Groth also provides a scouting service for college coaches to promote Arizona youth basketball players and runs some of the top local basketball tournaments in Phoenix during the year at all age levels.

“I believe this year’s showcase will top them all with player participation. We had to turn down 6 teams and several players because of lack of gym space. I know the best players in the state will be at Phoenix College playing in the Phoenix Fall Showcase. I also run events that will give players from Arizona more exposure on a national level and do it in Phoenix”.

College coaches can from junior colleges and division II, III and NAIA schools are expected to attend. The prospective student athletes will also receive in addition to the games they will play a seminar on NCAA eligibility standards and the NCSS clearinghouse process.
