Kirby verbals to Virginia Tech
Phoenix, AZ – Another Arizona high school prospect in the 2013 class has picked up a basketball scholarship.
Maurice Kirby the 6 foot 9 2013 center has decided to take an offer from Virginia Tech on his visit last weekend, per AAU coach Rock Johnson of ICAN.
“Virginia Tech followed Kirby all summer and they were impressed and he can play right away there, perfect fit”, said Johnson.
ICAN played all of the spring and summer games on the Midwest and East coast during the NCAA evaluation period. Virginia Tech head coach James Johnson and Rock Johnson are not related, Johnson in his second season at Virginia Tech believes in Kirby.
“Kirby averaged a double-double when he played for me and has a great attitude and is very skilled”, said Johnson.
Kirby also was a 2010 selection for the ihoops summer conference in which several of the Top 200 players in the country participated in, an invite only conference, Kirby was referred to the conference by Chad Groth of Area Codes Basketball.
Kirby picked Virginia Tech over Brown University in which he visited a few weeks ago and attends Basha High School in San Tan Valley, AZ.
