Session II wrap up: Tucson ELITE 50 Fall Showcase
Tucson, AZ – This event attracted the best prospects in Tucson and Southern Arizona. Named the Tucson ELITE 50 because 50 players in each session were invited to attend the event that will run again next Spring and Fall.
Directed by Chad Groth and Brian Peabody this event secured the top prospects in Tucson, AZ.
Dave Thomas now coaches as an assistant coach at Tohono O ‘Odham junior college in Arizona also was a major contributor to this event running drills and organizing the on court operations. Thomas knows the game and soon will move up in the coaching ranks.
Two sessions divided up the showcase as grades 7, 8 and 9th participated in the morning and grades 10, 11 and 12 participated in the afternoon.
Scouts and college coaches also attended and several high school coaches helped with the evaluations. In attendance were Tohono O Odham, Cochise, Chandler-Gilbert, Phoenix College, Pima, Arizona Western, and Central Arizona. Also making a quick stop in Tucson was Jeff Meadows of www.Hoopsreport.com
As 108 players participated in the one day event, Area Codes Basketball took notice of several of the prospects that performed during the day.
Tucson ELITE 50 watch list – Class of 2013, 2014 & 2015
Matt Klewer, 6’4 Catalina Foothills 2013 – long in length and defended well
Cameron Gause, 5’8 Home 2013 – can get a shot off and attacks off the dribble
Richard Hacker, 6’7 Empire 2013 – upside but time is short, must keep improving
Michael Houser, 6’4 Pusch Ridge 2013 – long range shooter has a good IQ on the floor
Chris Martin, 6’1 Buena 2013 – decent three point shooter
Omar Lorta, 6’3 San Miguel 2013 – played well in all games, steady prospect
Blake Staggs, 5’10 Empire 2013 – steady PG that made others better
Max Eichenour, 6’4 Catalina Magnet 2013 – made notice in one game, plays hard
Gilbert Gomez, 6’1 Tucson 2013 – steady defender that has handles
Ryan McHenry, 6’3 Catalina Foothills 2013 – really played well in both games, surprise prospect
TJ Stoglin, 6’1 Santa Rita 2013 – put up a ton of shots, needs to play under control & has a chance
Kevin O Brien, 6’1 Sabino 2014 – made others better on the floor
Austin Miller, 5’10 Catalina Foothills 2014 – has heart and did wells in drills
Brad Swain, 6’2 Ironwood Ridge 2014 – worked hard in drills and one to watch
Andre Bearden, 6’0 Sahuaro 2014 – scores well and ability to make others better, did well in drills
Benny Louchheim, 5’11 St Gregory 2014 – good in station work at all drills
Drills and Fundamentals filled an hour before the showcase games
Max Melder, 6’0 Sierra Vista 2014 – hard worker and was good in stations
James Molina, 6’1 Sahuaro 2014 – scores the ball well and did in both games
Ryan Callaghan, 6’6 Salpointe 2014 – one to watch will be solid & still developing
Laquontas Hammonds, 5’8 Sahuaro 2014 – this PG scores well and was effective at drills
Jesus Nunez, 6’3 Rincon 2014 – has good size and plays multiple positions
Hunter Lowry, 6’2 Salpointe 2014 – performed well in drills
Trevor Cotton, 6’3 Ironwood Ridge 2014 – one to watch & plays hard, needs to defend better
Daniel Ramon, 6’1 Rio Rico 2014 – hustles on both ends of the floor
Mitchell Latham, 6’0 Camp Verde 2014 – did well in drills and was good on defending
Chaz Mack, 6’5 Catalina Foothills 2014 – has upside and needs to work on handles
Dalton Groenewold, 6’2 Catalina Foothills 2014 – goes left and attacks on offense
Bailey Harn, 5’11 Ironwood Ridge 2014 – defended well in the game we watched
Colin Gause, 5’5 Sabino 2014 – young guard is not bad, good in drills also
Thomas McEvoy, 6’4 Salpointe 2014 – good at drills and defends okay
Dante Britton, 6’2 Benson 2014 – wiry and smooth guard that is fairly athletic, one to watch
Riley Adams, 6’3 Buena 2015 – impressive in drills and in the half court offense
Dakota Kordsiemon, 6’3 Catalina Foothills 2015 – smart basketball IQ and knows how to play, one of the best in this class in Tucson.
Luke Reynolds, 6’5 Buena 2015 – showed he is one to watch in this class and has a good feel for the game
Jordan Lane, 6’3 Sahuaro 2015 – good upside & has a chance, needs to work on ball handling
Austin Aguilar, 6’5 Ironwood Ridge 2015 – good upside and needs to improve shot selection
Kevin Biggs, 6’1 Cienaga 2015 – under control he can make it happen
Deion James, 6’5 Empire 2015 – has good upside, athletic and needs to work on offense, another good 2015 prospect
Ben Turk, 6’1 Ironwood Ridge 2015 – solid shooter and was good in drills
Aiden Romero, 5’11 Pueblo 2015 – quick guard that will improve
Thomas Wabaunsee, 5’10 Mountain View 2016 – played up against bigger players and did well
