Top Performers: Scholar Athlete Academic Showcase

Sept2012 040

Special to Area Codes Basketball

Phoenix, AZ – This special edition to the Scholar Athlete Academic Showcase will break down 10 prospects from last Saturdays Showcase, as once again Chad Groth put on one of the best showing of talent and organized events on the West Coast.

Area Codes Basketball Scholar Athlete Academic Showcase – Top Performers:

Gavin Pearce 6’4  2014 Saint Marys High School- Pearce possesses a strong frame and showed such finishing in and around the basket. Pearce is a high energy guy on defense and possesses adequate handles. Pearce has upside if he continues to improve.

Kodi Justice 6’6 2014  Dobson High School- Justice shot the ball extremely well during the event and even appeared to improve in his ability to drive to the basket. The ASU commit continues to improve in all areas especially defensively.

Gavin Pearce 2014

Isaac Allen 6’9 2014 Mesa High School- Allen continues to improve every time  I see him. In this case allen showed good footwork around the basket and finished with authority on most of his attempts. if Allen reaches his full potential, the sky is the limit.

Tyler Roberts 6’4 2013 Green Valley High School Henderson, NV-  Roberts was the talk of the showcase as he was the only non Arizona participant. Roberts has the knack of getting to the rim and finishing above the rim. possesses  solid ball handling skills, that allow him to play the 1&2 positions. shoots the three and mid range well. Arguably the most under recruited prospect in the state of NV.

Morningstar Takapu 2017

Antonio Love 6’3 2014 Central High, Phoenix AZ- Love has tremendous athletic ability and a knack of being where the ball is when around the basket. Love is an exceptional interior defender that keeps playing hard, regardless of the score.

Morningstar Takapu 6’6 2017 Thomas Heck MS- Intriguing potential future big, that is more athletic than most for his age. Takapu finishes around the basket and already is a solid rebounder. If Takapu puts in the hours in the gym, his ceiling is very high.

Nathan Markovich 2014

Nathan Markovich 6’1 2014 Basha High- Markovich was solid during the event, but had the tendency to over dribble in situations where it wasn’t necessary, in spite of that Markovich showed why he is one of the class of 2014′s top prospects.

Amir Chukwemeka 5’10 2016 McClintock- Chukwemeka has excellent handles for his age and appeared to have the basketball IQ of a junior in high school. Chukwemeka has great court vision and competes with spirit. Amir is one to watch for the future.

Felipe Velasco 2014

Felipe Velasco 6’7 2014 Mesa High School- Velasco is another big on a loaded Mesa high team this year. Velasco while still developing, has solid footwork around the basket and is a skilled rebounder in terms of positioning his body for the miss. Velasco may be one that colleges overlook due to other hyped players, however I would not sleep on this prospect.

Trey Hoebee 6’1 2015 Sunrise Mountain High School – Hoebee is very patient on the floor and has a smooth game on offense, at times showed ability to attack the basket and is a solid spot up shoot that can handle. If he keeps progressing his upside will look good.

 Tyler Roberts 2013
