College Coaches – Names to Remember from July
Phoenix, AZ – As the NCAA certified events took place college coaches ran in and out of gyms all over the country. The biggest stop in July was Anaheim, Long Beach and Las Vegas.
Area Codes Basketball spent the month traveling and looking for DI prospects and evaluating other DI potential prospects that college coaches needed to know more information about.
From the month of July we have a new database of over 150 prospects, our scouting service can’t go into each one but we will give you a short list of players that stood-out and are now on the map as division I prospects.
The follow players are not ranked or have any recruitment at the start of July, due to Twitter @areacodes some schools jumped on several prospects, here is the list.
Keegan Hansen, AZ Rebels Elite 2013 (Shadow Mountain HS – Phoenix, AZ) The 6’2 combo guard has a deadly jump shot and scored big numbers in July, played in Cream of the Crop and Las Vegas Classic.
Antonio Lang Jr, Game Elite 2014 (Leflore HS – Mobile, AZ) Lang is 6 foot 6 and very athletic with a smooth offensive game just like his father who played in the NBA Antonio Lang Sr. One to watch in the next couple of years as his recruitment will blow up shortly, played in the FAB 48.
Devontae Fitzgerald, Georgia Tornadoes 2013 (Tucker – Atlanta, GA) The 6 foot 7 guard started his recruitment after a early jump this summer, as many schools are now on board, the scoring SG played in the FAB 48 and Three Stripes and interest from Temple, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Central Florida, Kansas State and Oregon State.
Jeff Van Dyke, Gamepoint Black 2013 (La Costa Canyon – Carlsbad, CA) The 6 foot 3 guard can score from anywhere and has a gifted basketball IQ, with high academics. He has a defensive motor and played in the FAB 48.
Cameron Gilbert, AZ Stars 16U 2014 (Prescott HS – Prescott, AZ) This 6 foot 10 center blocks shots and runs the floor well, could be in better conditioning but plays hard and has upside. Played in Las Vegas Live and Las Vegas Classic.
Stanley Roberts, Branch West Elite 2014 (Peninsula HS – Carson, CA) Roberts father Stanley Roberts played in the NBA and was 7 foot 2, his son is 6’6 and still growing. He rebounds well and runs the floor, displayed his skills in front over a few dozen coaches in the FAB 48.
Daniel Giddens, Game Elite 2015 (Wheeler HS – Wheeler, GA) The 6 foot 10 forward blocks shots and can score in the post, great upside and will be a high major prospect. Showed very well in the Las Vegas FAB 48.
Breeland Nunn, CTB All Stars 2013 (La Jolla Prep – San Diego, CA) The 6 foot 9 forward is athletic and rebounds well, his jump hook is fair and plays under the basket. No recruiting as of now but will change after the FAB 48 showing.
Brandon Hoeffer, Arizona Aces 2015 (Chaparral HS – Scottsdale, AZ) Hoffer is 5’10 and a steady PG that has a tough swagger to his game, not afraid to go against anybody, just a freshman and held his own, bright future, played in Las Vegas FAB 48.
Vance Jackson, Belmont Shore 2016 (La Salle HS – Los Angeles, CA) Jackson is 6 foot 5 and has great upside, played big all spring and summer and is a name to remember, high major prospect and should be nationally ranked.
Andre Adams, AZ Magic Elite 2014 (Westview HS – Avondale, AZ) The 6 foot 8 forward was unheard of going into the spring and summer. Blew up as he dominated in Chad Groth’s Elite 8 in the Desert. Played 16U ball this season but was impressive after averaging 4 points per game in high school. Played in Cream of the Crop and Las Vegas FAB 48.
Devonte Cooper, Georgia Tornadoes 2014 (Durango HS – Las Vegas, NV) Cooper has upside at 6 foot 10, blocks shots and has a motor, thin and wiry but will be a solid prospect shortly. Moving to Las Vegas from Georgia this Fall, played in the FAB 48.
Isaiah Lopez, San Diego Magic 2013 (Agua Fria HS – Avondale, AZ) the 6 foot 1 PG is a natural PG, still under recruited and has high academics. Lopez can score and has a basketball IQ, multi sport player but sticking to basketball, played in FAB 48 and Cream of the Crop.
Shae Garland, LV Prospects 2015 (Valley HS – Las Vegas, NV) The 6 foot 4 guard can play multiple positions and does everything well on the floor. Will gain recruitment shortly and has great upside. Still growing and could end up 6 foot 8 at the end of the day, played in FAB 48.
Rashad Vaughn, Net Gain Sports 2014 (Cooper HS – Golden Valley, MN) Vaughn is very athletic and can score in bunches, one of a kind prospect with high major talent, played in FAB 48.
Brock Miller, Salt Lake Prospects 2015 (Brighton HS – Salt Lake City, UT) Miller is 6 foot 4 and can really shoot from downtown. I couldn’t believe the game I watched I didn’t see any college coaches, that will change the kid can play, played in FAB 48.
Paul Friendshun, MN Pump n Run 2014 (New Prague HS – New Prague, MN) The 6 foot 9 forward is thin and lanky but has a decent face-up game and runs the floor well, played in Adidas 64.
Omar Sherman, Texas Select 2014 (Duncanville HS – Duncanville, TX) The 6 foot 7 post player is physical and likes contact, has good size and runs the floor, one to watch and played well in the FAB 48.
Kenny Smith Jr, Aim High 2015 (Oaks Christian HS – Los Angeles, CA) Smith is a solid floor leader and PG at 6’0 and still growing, has a solid basketball IQ and knows how to play, father Kenny Smith played in the NBA and is now on TNT, “KJ” played in the Adidas 64.
DeShon Taylor, Compton Magic 2014 (North HS – Riverside, CA) The 6 foot 2 shooting guard has deep range and a quick release, no recruitment but that will not be a factor because he has division I talent. Played in Adidas 64.
Kelan Martin, Indiana Elite 2014 (Ballard HS – Louisville, KY) Martin has good size at 6 foot 6 and plays the wing, can slash to the basket and is athletic, big time prospect and played in Adidas 64.
Deshon Strickland, MN Pump n Run 2014 (Holy Angels HS – Minneapolis, MN) The 6 foot 2 combo has a knack for scoring and defended well in the half court. The athletic guard is one to watch and played in Adidas 64.
Jacob Hammond, Oklahoma Magic 2014 (Sky Home School HS – Oklahoma City, OK) The 6 foot 10 center has great upside and is physically gifted. One to watch in 2014, played in FCP All West Camp and Adidas 64.
Jose Bustamonte, Team M’Phasis 2014 (Peoria HS – Peoria, AZ) This 6 foot 6 guard can play a few positions and is a tough player. His athletic ability gives him a boost above the rest and can score in transition. Played in the Las Vegas FAB 48.
