Recap – Girl’s Northern Arizona Exposure Showcase
Cottonwood, AZ – The Northern Arizona Basketball Exposure took place at Mingus High School just minutes from the Red Rock Mountains in Sedona, AZ.
A total of 81 high school prospects which included a handful of middle school players participated in this showcase. As one of the guest speakers included a former University of Washington football player Oye Waddell who talked to the student athletes about recruiting and the process. Waddell also started a website www.gameplanintl.com that also is another avenue to get exposure.
Co-directors Chad Groth and Mark Owens also spoke briefly on their backgrounds and what it takes to get to college and the development of student athletes that will help them gain more exposure.
Groth runs Area Codes Basketball Scouting Service and website www.areacodesbasketball.com along with several events on the West Coast. Area Codes Basketball is the #1 source for hoops in Arizona.
Owens a former Division I coach at Drake University and also coached at Scottsdale Community College has great experience in coaching and player development. Now the athletic director and boys basketball coach at Mingus High School is helping several student-athletics gain exposure with this event and also runs the top basketball academy in Northern Arizona. The Girl’s that made a name for themselves yesterday at the Northern Arizona Basketball Exposure Showcase are listed below in alphabetical order.
Angel Chavez, Mingus 2014 – Showed good play on both ends of the floor.
Angela Bird, Seligman 2016 – Good upside and defended the ball well.
Aubrie Curley, Page 2015 – Displayed a pull-up jumper & rebounded well.
Danielle Valenzuela, Mingus 2014 – Finished well under the basket.
Gabby Onitveros, Camp Verde 2016 – Incoming frosh has upside, good work ethic.
Jackie Montijo, Mingus 2015 – Solid PG skills and one to watch.
Katelyn Mullings, Coconino 2013 – Athletic guard with crafty ball handling skills.
Kylie Streck, Mingus 2015 – Steady guard skills and made a few good moves in transition.
Marcella Rose Joe, Winslow 2014- All around athlete, future college prospect & can score.
Nizhoni Thomas, Flagstaff 2017 – Bright future with upside, played well against upper class.
Shandiin Armao, Winslow 2015 – Strong skills under the basket, played with energy.
Shieda Washington, Flagstaff 2013 – Good upside & feel for the game, very competitive with upside.
Storm Laster, Mingus 2015 – Knows how to play, DI prospect, long arms and good offensive skills.
Tate Tsingine, Tuba City 2015 – Good basketball IQ, can pass, score has DI potential & upside.
Vivian Koeppe, Mingus 2016 – scrappy defender and nice shooting touch.
