Unsigned Prospects workout at Phoenix College
Phoenix, AZ – Close to forty-five players took the court on Wednesday night at Phoenix College to get a Last Chance workout in front of a few scouts and college coaches from schools in Arizona.
Dan Nichols (HC South Mountain Community College), Simon Phipps (Asst Coach Glendale Community College), Will Worosylla (HC Scottsdale Community College), Jordon Dreiling (HC Central Arizona College), Jeff Rutter (HC Arizona Christian University), Jeff Meadows (Hoopsreport.com), Chad Groth (Area Codes Basketball), Rick Mcgee (Next Level Basketball) and Matt Gordon (HC Phoenix College) all attended this showcase to watch unsigned seniors and prospects give a workout to hopefully catch a last chance scholarship before the late summer signing period.
Several high school coaches attended to support players that played for them in the past and that was good to see. A couple in the crowd were Tony Fuller (Brophy College Prep) and Luke Neibling (Formerly Arcadia and now at Sandra Day High School) stood out in support of this event. Former Arizona State University basketball players Donnell Knight, Tommie Smith and Lester Neal also were present in support.
Knight, Directed the workout and did a great job in the instructional stations and drills. Knight is one of the best in the city at player development.

Some of the top performers this evening included: (in height order)
Toucha Barnes, 6’6 Hammond (IN) – Spent a year at Vincennes University last season but did not play. Now looking for a JUCO and hopes to land one in AZ. Long and wiry with some skills that can give him a chance to be effective.
Michael Anthony, 6’6 Alhambra (Phoenix, AZ) – Graduated in 2006 and has not played anywhere. Thin and likes to shoot the jumper, blocked a couple of shots and runs the floor, seemed to be in shape.
Isaac Vogan, 6’5 Agua Fria (Avondale, AZ) – Has good rebounding skills and works hard on both ends of the floor, solid four man and is undersized but plays big, will help any NAIA or JUCO, scores on the block.
Jacobo Monteverde, 6’4 Catalina Foothill (Tucson, AZ) – Runs the floor well and can face up fairly good with ball handling skills, moves well and is a wide body forward. Likes to bang and not soft, likes to play physical and has a good attitude. Solid JUCO, DII or NAIA pick up, good academics.
Terrol Wilson, 6’4 Arcadia (Phoenix, AZ) – Smooth and silky player on both ends. Wilson plays good defense and is athletic in transition, should find a school soon enough. Great student and plays hard.
Prescott Evans, 6’3 Fairfax (Phoenix, AZ) – Can score from mid range and defended the ball well. Hopefully can land a spot late, good motor.
Tulio Whitman, 6’3 Trevor Browne (Phoenix, AZ) – Came in ready to play, will find a place to play with no problem, best defender of the evening, he likes contact and plays multiple positions and can score, blocked a few lay ups in transition, JUCO lock at any level.
Gabe Harrison, 6’3 Palo Verde (Tucson, AZ) – Played well in the half court and does several things well on the floor, can handle well and makes plays on offense.
Jaquan Goree, 6’3 Independence (Glendale, AZ) – I believe he can play both football and basketball in college, solid JUCO find and is athletic, good size and runs the floor, likes contact and skilled off the dribble, didn’t take plays off.
DJ Board, 6’2 Copper Canyon (Glendale, AZ) – Good energy and drives to the basket, plays hard and long arms give him looks on the wing, plays combo and should find a school soon.
Eric Williams, 6’1 Westview (Avondale, AZ) – Runs the point and can play off guard, quick in transition and good foot speed, one of the sleepers this year as unsigned senior, solid DII prospect and possible low DI potential. May need to go JUCO route but high basketball IQ. Can knock down the open jumper or attack the basket with good ball handling skills, he is a winner.
Kyani Dillard, 6’1 Buena (Sierra Vista, AZ) – Good skills during the drills and stations. Good feel for the game and can play both guard positions, solid JUCO find and moves well without the ball.
Brandon Dixon, 6’1 Arcadia (Phoenix, AZ) – Came out in the class of 2011 and is looking for a school to play at. Solid PG skills and likes to attack, moves well without the ball and is a quick defender. Dixon can score the ball in many ways and is better in the lane.
Andy Blackmore, 6’0 Pima College (Tucson, AZ) – RS freshman last season and is ready to play, he can really shoot the ball, one of the best seen today with good range. Blackmore can handle the ball and drives hard to the basket, likes to mix it up and defends. Tough player that will land at a JUCO or DII, plays both guard positions, better point guard.
Elijah Myers, 6’0 Santa Rita (Tucson, AZ) – Plays both guard positions, mid range shooting is his best option and can pass on the break.
Xavier Stephens, 6’0 Glendale (Glendale, AZ) – Fared well in the competitive games and has a chance. Good defender and worked hard the entire workout, one to watch.
Justin Bailey, 6’0 Peoria Central (Peoria, IL) – Just landed in the Valley a few weeks ago. Pretty quick with the ball and runs the floor with control, handled well and can pass, good option for a JUCO looking for a guard.
Randyl Roberts, 6’0 Boulder Creek (Anthem, AZ) – Very quick point guard that gets the offense going. Showed good sportsmanship and decisions with the ball. In good academic standing and can play DII basketball, may opt for JUCO.
