Cullen Neal The Nations Top Sleeper
Long Beach, CA – Meet the top high school basketball player in New Mexico.
His name is Cullen Neal. The 2013 Neal stands 6 foot 4 and is a shooting guard at Eldorado High School in Albuquerque, NM.
Neal has a current grade point average of 3.97 and is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Special Olympics.
His passion for the game is like no others and this season averaged 27.7 points per game. This season Neal was selected as ESPNHS and Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
Neal gave a verbal commitment to Randy Bennett and St. Mary’s on February 13, 2012. His father is former NBA great Craig Neal who is now the head assistant coach at the University of New Mexico under head coach and a former NBA standout shooting guard Steve Alford.
Neal is ranked nationally on several websites and a couple of weeks ago during the Pangos All American Camp in Long Beach California, Area Codes Basketball sat down with Cullen Neal at Roscoe’s House of Chicken N’ Waffles.
AC: You had a busy year with not much of a break, what have you been doing?
Cullen: It has been busy, I took several unofficial visits to colleges, we won the Class 5A high school state championship in New Mexico at the Pit in front of a crowd of over 11,000, and now club basketball and camps in the spring and summer.
AC: What are your hobbies?
Cullen: Workout in the gym and sleep.

AC: You picked St. Mary’s over what other schools that offered?
Cullen: Arizona State, Gonzaga, Oregon State, Vanderbilt, San Francisco and Stanford.
AC: How is your workout schedule?
Cullen: I shot 500 shots a day, six days out of the week.
AC: What club team do you playing with?
Cullen: Danny Granger Hurricanes.
AC: What do you need to work on this summer to improve at the next level?
Cullen: The weight room and my strength.
AC: What do you do well on the basketball court?
Cullen: Pass, Court vision and shooting.
AC: Favorite class in high school?
Cullen: History.
