Nevada picks up transfer from UTEP
Reno, NV – Former UTEP guard Mike Perez will transfer to Nevada from UTEP. Perez will have two seasons of college to play basketball at Nevada.
Perez, visited Reno after visiting Penn State last week, was down to Nevada, Penn State and Purdue.
The Tucson, AZ native played aau basketball with Etop Udo Ema and the Compton Magic. During his time with the Compton Magic, Perez gave a verbal to Steve Lavin and St John’s University the summer of his senior season during the month of July but wasn’t cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse. After a month of waiting Perez signed with UTEP.
“Good choice and nice fit for Mike”, said Udo Ema.
The 6 foot 3 guard had a solid two years at UTEP and had a career high of 25 points against Clemson, also netting 18 vs Oregon, 19 vs New Mexico State, 17 vs UNLV, 18 vs Auburn and 15 against Memphis and Tulane. Perez averaged 11.0 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.9 apg and 30.9 mpg. His shooting was 40.3 percent from the floor and 36.9 from three point land.
Perez will have to sit out the 2012-13 season per NCAA transfer rules. He will join another former Compton Magic player in the backcourt when he plays in 2013-14 season Deonte Burton.
